2012 - 2013 Update

Where have the last 18 months gone?  I have been so busy that this Blog has not been updated.  So here is some information about the last 18 months.

Problems arose, for different reasons, for both the Indian and the Algerian groups of teachers.  So although neither of the groups came from India or Algeria to the UK, the course advertised on the website drew the attention of someone in Egypt who successfully completed the course via Skype in August 2013.  A friend of hers is at present completing the same course, which in now on-line.  Others have shown an interest in the on-line course, so I look forward to working with them soon. I can only mark the work of 5 students each month, so enrol soon or you will miss out.

Between times, I have been working in India, Dubai and Abu Dhabi and have visited Harvard University (home of MI) in Boston, when attending a conference run by the International Biographical Centre, based in Cambridge, UK.

The Assessments for those wishing to upgrade to Higher Level Teaching Assistants has also taken up some of my time when I have been in the UK, as has the work involved in transferring the on-site course to an on-line course.  This course is at www.multiple-intelligences.com.

2014 has begun and various opportunities seem to be on the horizon.  I will update you when they are confirmed.

Meanwhile I hope 2014 brings you too many exciting opportunities.  I wish you all the best for 2014.

MI Courses in Oxford

MAW Education is providing, in Oxford UK, courses on applying MI to classroom practice, for groups of teachers from abroad.  15 teachers and their esteemed university professor have booked on the course arranged for the end of August 2012.  This is a 4 day course with 4 days of site seeing.  Although 6 teachers in India have also shown an interest in two of these courses they could not find the necessary 16 people to run a course.  If any more of you are interested, please look at the website  http://www.discover-multiple-intelligences.com/short_course.htm and contact me via e-mail and we will try to arrange a course for you in the next academic year (September 2012 - September 2013).

World Forum 2010 - Cambridge UK

The International Biographical Center, UK and the American Biographical Institute once again organised the annual World Forum, this time held in the beautiful setting of St. John's College at Cambridge University, UK.

This year a gave a presentation on 'Changing Education: a challenge across the world for the 21st century.' After speaking about past changes in education I showed photos of schools in the different countries I have visited: South Africa, Malta, India, Algeria, Qatar and Dubai where change is taking place and pointed towards some of the challenges teachers face now and in the future.

I was greatly honoured with an unexpected award for 'Distinguished Intellectual Contributions to the 2010 World Forum, Cambridge, England Representing Europe', for which I thank humbly the two respective Institutes.

Beijing, China - May 2010

The Multiple Intelligences Institute in Beijing organised a World Symposium at which Professor Howard Gardner was a speaker. It was advertised as an all Asia Symposium, so I decided to attend as I work so much in India and wanted to hear about Gardner's latest research.

I was not disappointed. It was a wonderful conference, with many excellent speakers and very informative group sessions.

After the two-day conference, I stayed on for three days to do some site-seeing, visiting the Temple of Heaven and Hutong, The Forbidden City and Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs and a walk along the Great Wall of China. Wonderful experiences and my guide was first class.

Dubai - January 2010

How lucky I was to be invited back yet again to take part in four school inspections, leading three of them. I visited schools in the city of Dubai and also 40 minutes away, travelling to a village in the desert.

When I arrived in Dubai on January 1st, all were still in festive mood with families from many Arab countries enjoying a holiday at the hotel.

A truly momentous occasion was the opening of Burj Khalifa (Dubai) the highest building in the world at 828 metres. The six-lane traffic came to a halt, as we all watched the amazing fireworks and the ceremonial opening.

Dubai - October and November 2009

I was invited to return to Dubai, to take part in school inspections. I joined teams in eight different schools with students from Kindergton up to Grade 12, leading two of the inspections.

India September 2009

Another wonderful visit to India to run Multiple Intelligences and Assessment Workshops, and this time also to interview principals and a politician to gather information for a book I am writing.

Schools visited were:

Alpha Matriculation - Chennai
Miles Bronson - Guwahati
Navrachana - Baroda
Spring Dale - Amristar
Pinegrove - Solan Hills

ABI and IBC World Forum 2009, in Washington USA

Another wonderful World Forum organised by the American Biographical Institute and the International Biographical Centre,UK. This time it was held in Washington DC, at the end of June and the start of July, so we were there for the festivities on the 4th July.

As always the presentations were of high quality and by people from many different professions and countries. A real cultural exchange of ideas and many international professional friendships formed.

It was a sadness to us all that I had to give news to the gathering of the death of two former delegates, Dr. and Mrs. Sandu of Spring Dale and Spring Blossom schools, Amritsar.
